How to Help

New City currently has only 4 employees. We rely heavily on our excellent volunteers and the wonderful donations of goods and services that we have received. This website is one such donation. The following are some guidelines for helping our school—please email or call if you can fill one of these needs.

Volunteer Services:

People with gifts in storytelling, music or art for elementary children.

Experience with grant writing.

Sewing--you don't have to be a professional just good enough to sew a tunic for Greek history.

Legal--we need to have an advisor available to the school with legal expertise.

Yard work/gardening—maintain landscaping (weeding, mulching, and pruning). Investigate the possibility of installing a butterfly garden.

Graphic design—occasional design work for a brochure or advertisement.

Writer—prepare email newsletters or a brochure.

Special Events—Fall Festival, Thanksgiving Feast, etc. Extra hands for special projects.

Prayers—individuals who will pray for the staff, board, students, their families, etc.

Individuals who are willing to listen to students read.

Maintenance or handyman help—for small repairs in the classrooms.

Items Needed:

Suggested individual books--New City has a Wish List available on Amazon. Follow the link.

Gift Cards--we would especially love gift cards from Staples, Office Depot, Ingles, Lowe's, Home Depot or Barnes and Noble. We also need gas gift cards to be given as door prizes, etc. Then again, we never met a gift card we did not like.

Supporters--we are hoping to find 20 new supporters that will donate $100 per month and 50 supporters who will donate $500 per year to the school.

Classroom supplies—paper towels, facial tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox spray for hard surfaces, Clorox wipes, bandaids, and healthy snacks.

Books—we always have a need for high quality K-5 books. We can also use preschool books since many of our students have younger siblings.

Specific Books--Scholastic has put together sets of books that align with the Core Knowledge Curriculum that we use at New City. We are looking for a generous individual to purchase a set for our kindergarten, first, second, or third grade. Call Coral Jeffries (776-6227 if you are interested in helping).

Gently used office printers, laptops or other office equipment.

Puzzles, games, Legos, Playmobile, videos—if we don’t need what is donated, we can often pass it on to our families.

School desks, chairs, bookcases, clean area rugs, and folding tables—we will be adding a grade a year and will have ongoing needs for furniture.

Art supplies—water colors, paper, glue sticks, crayons, sketch pads, construction paper, etc.

Recorders and other musical instruments.

Children's books on tape or CDs.

Other Great Ways to Help

Used Printer Cartridges--please collect them and bring them to the school or call Principal Woods (776-6228) and let her know that you have some. We can turn these in for money or credits for office supplies.
