Cathy Heck, Chairman Cathy has a master's degree in parent/child nursing. Before moving to Asheville she developed and taught an abstinence-based puberty education program still being widely used in Cincinnati City Schools. Cathy is married to Dr. Jeff Heck, who is a family physician here in Asheville. They have five children. She is a facilitator for the Building Bridges program.

Rev. John Grant, Vice-Chair Dr. Grant has been the pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Asheville since 1989. He is the Founding Chairman, President and CEO of both the Eagle-Market Streets Development Corporation and the Mount Zion Community Development Corporation, both of Asheville. He has been married to Belinda Kennedy Grant since 1980. His wife Belinda serves as Executive Director of Mount Zion Community Development, Inc. John and Belinda are the parents of two children: Kontia J Grant and John H. Grant, Jr. More biographical information is available at www.mtzionasheville.org.

David Key, Treasurer David is a CPA with his own accounting firm. He is married to Adrienne Key and they have three grown sons.

Portia Cauthen White, Secretary Portia is an educator with experience in teaching middle school. She taught happily at Asheville Christian Academy for ten years and now works as the coordinator for Montreat College Teacher Education Program. She is married to Richard White, pastor of Montreat Presbyterian Church. They have three adult children.

Rev. John Brewster Rev. Brewster is the pastor of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. He is married to Brenda and they have four children. He is affectionantly known as "Red Rooster" by our younger students who have trouble saying Reverend Brewster.

Sharon Kelly West Sharon is a registered nurse and is currently the Program Manager for Women's Health Services at the VA Medical Center. She is an author, historian, and lecturer. Mrs. West is married to John West and they have 3 adult children. She is a member of Crossroads Assembly.

Coral Innes Jeffries, Executive Director Coral is the founder of the school. She has a Masters in Public Health degree in Maternal and Child Health. She has served on a task force for the Literacy Council of Buncombe County. She is married to Brent and is home-schooling the youngest of their four children.

Cassandra Wells Cassendra is the mother and grandmother of students at New City. She graduated in May 2011 from AB Teach with an Associate's Degree. She is continuing her education at UNCA in elementary education and psychology. She is a tutor at the River of Life Impact tutoring program.

Renee Brooks Renee is the owner and Creative Director for ASLANcreative, a video marketing group for retirement communities. She holds degrees in Communications and Educational Media. Renee is married to John H. Brooks.

Former NC Rep. Bruce Goforth Bruce Goforth is a native of Asheville. He has had a long career in business in Asheville and owns Goforth Builders. He served the State of North Carolina in the House of Representatives for four terms and is currently an adviser on jobs and the economy to Speaker of the House, Rep. Thom Tillis.

We would like to thank Dianne McGlen for her faithful service to New City Christian School as our first Chair and for believing in the mission of New City from the beginning. She now resides in Greensboro, NC.
