NCCS is a private school designed for urban students and located in the heart of Asheville. Opened in 2006, the school presently offers kindergarten through fourth grades. Our goal is to add a grade each year until we can offer preK through eighth grade. The school is housed in Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church at 56 Walton Street and focuses on providing excellent academics, Christian nurture, and service to the community. The school offers a small "family-like" atmosphere with lots of individual attention. Tuition is based on a sliding scale and our goal is to offer affordable private education to any family who is willing to faithfully uphold the mission of the school. Individuals in the community, businesses, churches and foundations make donations that provide the remainder of our operating funds. We are also blessed with many volunteers from the community.

The poet William B. Yeats reportedly said that "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." You are invited to call the school if you would like to see how New City is lighting a fire in the lives of our students. The work of educator E.D. Hirsch has been very important to the curriculum and philosophy of our school. He said, "In order for a truly democratic and economically sound society to be maintained, young people must have access to the best knowledge available so that they can understand the issues, express their viewpoints, and act accordingly." We strive to prepare such students as we expand to become a preK-8th grade school in the coming years.

We are pleased to announce our outstanding test results for the 3rd grade class for the 2010-11 school year. For Total Achievement (reading and math scores combined), 100% of our students scored above the 50th percentile.
